CAHPS Patient Surveys Stakholder Surveying Consulting Hybrid Survey


MTC provides our clients with the option to do CG-CAHPS surveys right now. In addition, the CG-CAHPS survey questions are a part of the MTC National Normative Benchmarking database and are included in the expansive reporting suites delivered by the MTC Web Reporting system.

There is a growing interest in the ambulatory medical services community regarding CG-CAHPS. A little history and background on CG-CAHPS may help you understand the current state of affairs relating to the Clinician & Group CAHPS survey.

The Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) surveys represent a suite of standardized assessments designed by the U.S. Department of Heath and Human Services.

The Agency for Health Care Research and Quality states in their website:

The Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) program is a public-private initiative to develop standardized surveys of patients' experiences with ambulatory and facility-level care.

Health care organizations, public and private purchasers, consumers, and researchers use CAHPS results to:

  • Assess the patient-centeredness of care;
  • Compare and report on performance; and
  • Improve quality of care

Some of the CAHPS assessments are well established and others are still in the early stages of development. Currently there are assessments for health plans, dental plans, hospitals, nursing homes, surgery centers, home health providers, hemodialysis centers, behavioral health, American Indian health services and doctors/ambulatory medical facilities.

The Clinician & Group CAHPS survey (also called CG-CAHPS Survey or the CAHPS Clinician & Group Survey) is currently in testing and participation is voluntary.

The intent for CG-CAHPS is to allow public comparison between medical groups and individual providers utilizing a standardized survey and a national database managed by AHRQ.

Accountable Care Organizations will need to conduct CG-CAHPS, either in-house or with a survey vendor, in 2013. MTC is qualified to conduct CG-CAHPS surveys for you.
